Paintclubeast
presents this symposium led by Dr Sunil Manghani, Reader in Critical and Cultural Theory at Winchester School of Art.
With the advent of new narratives of protest, social networks and community-engagement, the "social" and the "political" in art has been back in the spotlight.
What does this mean for the painter?
What is the " commitment" of/to painting, as an aesthetic and/or ethical/political practice?
Dr Manghani will be joined by 5 artists who will draw upon their own practices in exploring and interrogating the subject:
David Mabb
Dr Catherine Ferguson
Jeffrey Dennis
Emma Talbot
Rebecca Fortnum
The aim of paintclubeast is to support the professional development of painters in the UK’s Eastern region by enabling critical debate about contemporary painting.
This is achieved through a programme of talks by leading international/national painters and also by discussion held in studios and other venues.
